The American Society of Naturalists, Society for the Study of Evolution, and the Society of Systematic Biologists are looking for Evo Allies for the 2020 Evolution Meeting in Cleveland. Evo Allies are vetted and trained attendees who serve the community as visible colleagues who are available to offer support to Evolution Meeting participants who are targets of, or who witness, inappropriate behavior. Applications are due Monday, March 23. Continue reading for more information.
The role of Evo Allies is to support individuals who have experienced or witnessed inappropriate behavior in making their own decision about whether or not to report it. Evo Allies do not participate in any aspect of investigating reports or sanctioning. Evo Allies also commit to creating safe spaces at the meeting by serving as active bystanders.
Evo Allies must be members of one of the sponsoring societies and have attended at least one Evolution meeting. Evo Allies can be graduate students, post-docs, or faculty/researchers at any career stage. Applicants will need to attend a training session with our Safety Officer on the morning of June 19 (day before the meeting starts). We are seeking five new EvoAllies this year, and will need to balance the demographics of the group as a whole. If any applicant is not selected for service this year, we will keep a list of interested applicants for future consideration.
